If Patton Oswalt could go back in time he would kill George Lucas and “stop him from making the prequels.” I would go back and make John McCain choose another running mate. After watching Game Change, it seems all I’d have to do is simply find Steve Schmidt and harass him will messages (somehow), screaming “Was she vetted on foreign policy? Was Governor Palin vetted on foreign policy, for Christmas’ sake?”
John McCain seems like a good guy. I watched a video the other day where he, very quickly, says:
I think we should respect the right of women to make choices in their lives, and make that clear, and get back on to what the American people really care about. Jobs and the economy.”
Senator Chuck Winder of Idaho takes a different view about the right of women to make choices in their lives.
This Huffinton Post article begins:
The sponsor of an Idaho mandatory ultrasound bill, state Sen. Chuck Winder, made some highly controversial comments Monday during his closing arguments, suggesting women might falsely use rape as an excuse to obtain an abortion.”
The article also states that Winder responded to criticisms that the bill does not make exceptions for rape victims, incest victims or women in medical emergencies “by raising the question of whether women understand when they have been raped.”
Well, I, for one, am happy to know there’s a straight guy out there putting himself in my shoes. First of all, it’s a little known fact that abortions are awesome. It’s like a punk rock party, literally, in a woman’s pants. 1) You never know if angry picketers yelling, “Murderer!” and “Baby killer!” will be shouting directly into your face as you walk in–always good for getting the party started, and 2) Feeling uncomfortable, sad, shamed, on a cold sterile slab under fluorescent lighting is probably the best time that can be had on any given Tuesday. Those women who lie about rape just so they can go through the awesomeness that is an abortion should be ashamed of themselves! The jig is up, lady!! Your hardcore abortion partying days are O-V-E-R. Maybe you didn’t get raped, huh! Maybe you were just having sex with your own husband and didn’t know it! Stupid!
I’m going to have to ask why do these men project so much? I am convinced that these straight men are so obsessed with women’s healthcare and gays getting married because the real underlying concern has to do with a population that does not reproduce and therefore is stealing future taxpaying dollars from them. After all, it really shouldn’t matter that you are raped. Even if your unwanted bastard child grows up and goes to prison, just their presence generates some kind of income for someone. Right?
I cannot figure any other reason for the lack of heart, conscience and over-involvement these people demonstrate. Forcing a woman through two ultrasounds to guilt her into keeping the baby is cruel and a waste of money. I know women who have had abortions, and it scarred them. I literally do not know one woman who has had an abortion who acted like it was no big deal. You don’t have to be the most feeling person on the planet to know it’s an excruciating process and in no way FUN.
This is why women need representation–not by men–but by other women. And not crazy women who want to be men. There is an extreme level of compassion completely absent from this conversation.
For an AMAZING article by Soraya Chemaly entitled, “10 Reasons the Rest of the World Thinks the U.S. Is Nuts,” link is here.
Forcing women to undergo involuntary vaginal penetration (otherwise called rape) with a condom-covered, six- to eight-inch ultrasound probe. Pennsylvania is currently considering that option along with 11 other states. Trans-vaginal ultrasounds undertaken without a woman’s consent are rape according to the legal definition of the word. This violates a woman’s bodily integrity and also constitutes torture when used, as states are suggesting, as a form of control and oppression. Women have the right not to be raped by the state.”
Depriving women of their ability to earn a living and support themselves and their families. Bills, like this one in Arizona, allow employers to fire women for using contraception. Women like these are being fired for not.”
And for once, a comment thread (Chuck Winder, link below) that is stellar!
