Our Parisian Vacation, part 7

Posted by Lydia Lee on Jul 06, 2012

Day 4 we woke up early and headed to a tourist office to purchase a trip the next day bound for Reims, the champagne region of France. I would have loved to have gone to Bourgogne, but our guide Serge explained that the traffic in between two of the cities along the way is thick, making a special tour much too complicated. That will have to wait.

But Notre Dame de Paris was right there, so we strolled by, snapped off some pictures and then walked around Île St.-Louis–an island in the middle of the River Seine made famous in the gorgeous song by Édith Piaf, Sous Le Ciel de Paris.

Statue Of Charlemagne

I got off a picture of the Obelisk at Place de la Concord, but it came out over exposed. Here is a salvaged close-up of one of the two fountains at Place de la  Concorde (Fontaines de la Concorde).

I hope you played Berloz’s Journey to Rheiems on the trip
Did you know that it was at Rhiems that the kning sof France were crowned traditionally.

The last King crowned was Charles X 1, I don’t think Louise PHillipe in 1830 was however.BY the way concerning Charlemagne his seat of government was at Aachen now Maschstriet( where the EU treaty was furthered). Hope you lap up the champagne ; you can thank a franch monk of rthat one as with Chartruse.

Yes. Our guide did tell us that kings were crowned in Reims. The cathedral is sooooo beautiful! Pictures coming soon!!

Took a tour of G.H. Mumm and tasted their Brut, bought the Blanc de Noir, bought a different brand at a little shop; drank them both. Bought the Brut and brought it home. Drank that, too. Yum, yum, yum…
